Canelo and Golovkin two first fought in 2017, with the bout ending in a controversial split decision draw. They competed in a rematch in 2018, which was delayed by a few months after Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. Canelo won via majority decision. Both boxers will square off in the same arena where Canelo drew the Kazakh in September 2017 and subsequently defeated him in September 2018. Canelo’s super middleweight title is on the line, therefore he’ll strive to retain his flawless record against his trilogy opponent.

The stakes are high because their previous match was dubbed the “greatest of 2018.” JefeBet’s preview of Canelo vs. Golovkin.

Canelo was last seen fighting in May 2022, when he was knocked out by Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo had already beaten the Kazakh, but his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 will motivate him to win this fight. The championship is still up for grabs.

Bivol defeated Caleb Plant by technical knockout in Las Vegas in November 2021 at the light heavyweight category.

After the second fight, Gennady Golovkin’s momentum remained stable. He knocked out two of his four opponents.

He cemented his position in WBA middleweight history in his most recent fight, on April 9 against Ryota Murata. His solitary defeat in his career came at the hands of a Mexican, for whom the Kazakh had plenty of time to prepare.

Golovkin wants to show to the Mexican that he is the finest boxer in his weight class by defeating him for the third time. He hopes that the third time will be the charm and that he would be able to dethrone his opponent.

Boxing fans have been anticipating Canelo vs. GGG 3 for four years, and it is finally happening!

Canelo Alvarez is desperate to win the trilogy clash against Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he wants to earn it via stoppage. The Mexican star underperformed in his latest fight against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol and suffered a decision loss. The long-awaited trilogy between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin is upon us.

Watch Canelo vs GGG 3 Fight Live

Finally, Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin will lock horns as they battle for the third time on Sept. 17 for the undisputed super middleweight championship at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas live on DAZN PPV in the U.S., Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand as well as around the world on DAZN (except Mexico, Kazakhstan and Latin America; check your region for availability).

Alvarez and Golovkin will return to the scene of their previous two epic battles. The first fight in September 2017 ended in a split draw, with the consensus being that Golovkin had done more than enough to earn the victory. The rematch occurred one year later, in September 2018, with Alvarez leaving victorious via majority decision.

After stopping Caleb Plant in November to become the first-ever undisputed champion at 168 pounds, Alvarez returned to light heavyweight to attempt to become a two-time champion against WBA (super) titlist Dmitry Bivol. However, Bivol had other plans in mind, soundly winning by unanimous decision to hand Alvarez his first loss in over eight years.

Meanwhile, Golovkin fought in April, traveling to Japan, and beat Ryoto Murata by ninth-round TKO to add the WBA (super) middleweight title to his IBF belt. So now, GGG gets a chance to avenge two fights that he feels should have gone his way.

It won’t just be the Undisputed Super Middleweight Titles on the line, as the WBC Super Flyweight title will also be defended by Jesse Rodriguez against Israel Gonzalez.

Here is everything you need to know regarding the undercard for the massive Canelo Alvarez vs Gennadiy Golovkin event on Saturday, September 17th 2022.

Here is the full card and main event for Canelo vs GG3 on Saturday, September 17th 2022 as confirmed by the official Matchroom Boxing website:

  • Anthony Herrera vs Delvin Mckinley
  • Aaron Aponte vs Fernando Angel Molina
  • Marc Castro vs Kevin Montiel Mendoza
  • Diego Pacheco vs Enrique Collazo
  • Austin Williams vs Kieron Conway
  • Ali Akhmedov vs Gabriel Rosado
  • Jesse Rodriguez (c) vs Israel Gonzalez – WBC Super Flyweight Title Bout
  • Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin – WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring Super Middleweight Titles Bout

Should Canelo go on to win this epic contest, he has stated that he is open to a catchweight bout with the man who defeated Anthony Joshua on two straight occasions: Oleksandr Usyk.

Speaking to Fighthype (via Boxing Scene), he said: “It’s difficult, but I don’t care. I like that kind of challenge.”

“It’s going to be difficult, I know, but I love boxing. I love being in that kind of situation.”

It would certainly be a huge box office draw, but it all depends on how Canelo performs against GGG and if Tyson Fury doesn’t get the next shot at Usyk!

As noted, the huge contest will be available for fight fans to watch via DAZN, which is available to subscribe to for only £7.99 per month

It’s worth noting however that DAZN subscribers will need to pay an additional£9.99 to get access to the PPV stream.

Monday, Sept. 12

YouTube and Facebook, 2:00 pm ET, Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva press conference. The first presser for the Oct. 29 Showtime PPV, this one’s in Hollywood, while the fight itself will be in Phoenix, which has a second presser the next day. Chael Sonnen, who fought Silva twice in UFC, will be hosting. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

YouTube and Facebook, 2:00 pm ET, Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva press conference. Not sure this one will have a stream but if it does, it’ll be same idea as Monday’s.

Thursday, Sept. 15

DAZN and Social Media, 3:30 pm ET, Canelo vs GGG 3 press conference. We’ll have the stream and some live updates. Generally we don’t bother for pressers anymore, but this is a legit Big Fight, and if you’re wondering about the Paul vs Silva pressers, I mean, that, too. Sorry! It’s just true. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

Friday, Sept. 16

DAZN and Social Media, 3:30 pm ET, Canelo vs GGG 3 weigh-in. The DAZN Boxing Show will also be part of the broadcast, so it’ll be, like, a whole show around the weigh-in, too, which is what happens with most big weigh-ins now anyway. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

Saturday, Sept. 17

Bet on Canelo vs GGG 3 and more boxing at DraftKings Sportsbook!

DAZN and Social Media, 2:00 pm ET, The DAZN Boxing Show Live: Canelo vs GGG 3. I think the prelims will be part of this, technically, and there will obviously be a lot of hype, video packages, etc. If the prelims get a more direct start time, we’ll let you know and update this post.

FITE+, 4:00 pm ET, JackRabbit Boxing: Back to School Tournament. Amateur fights out of the JackRabbit Boxing Academy in Long Beach, in association with USA Boxing. Figure interest is minimal but now you know it’s there!

DAZN PPV, 8:00 pm ET, Canelo Alvarez vs Gennadiy Golovkin 3. A lot of opinions on this fight happening at this point in time, but it’s a huge rivalry rubber match between two of the biggest and best names in boxing of this era. Probably the last time we see them fight — I say “probably” because you never really know until you know. You can order through DAZN and through PPV.com if you’re looking for an alternative streaming option, plus regular cable and satellite, etc. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.
